For over 250 years, the Royal Academy of Arts has been championing art and artists, internationally, each year hosting the largest open-submission exhibition in the world. Even Covid-19 hasn’t stopped the show going on. Whilst galleries and public events have gone into lockdown, the 2020 RA Young Artists’ Summer Show is still going ahead, in an online exhibition, launching on 12 July. There are also plans to host an on-site exhibition in Autumn, where subject to lockdown guidance, Claudia and her Tutors will be thrilled to visit Summerset House in London to see her amazing work in situ.
A panel of passionate and award-winning artists and arts professionals judged and curated the submissions, shortlisting Claudia’s work to be displayed amongst the world’s most well-known artists, as well as other students and emerging talents. Prizes will be awarded for two inspiring artworks from each key stage of the exhibition, as chosen by the Judges. Members of the public will also be able to vote for their favourite artwork in the People’s Choice Awards.
Despite Claudia's work being of an outstanding standard, as seen above, she was still surprised, telling us "although I spent hours producing my Distorted Still Life images, I was not expecting an email from the Royal Academy, telling me that I had been chosen to appear in both the online and on-site exhibitions! It is so exciting and I'm so pleased. I want to thank my tutors Yvette Wheddon and Ed Badley for their wonderful support, skills and encouragement they've given me during my time at Southport College."
Our tutors actively encourage students to enter their work into local, national and international competitions as it helps raise their profile and boosts portfolios. This strengthens applications to Universities, prospective employers and clients. Ever so proud, her tutors have told us “Claudia is an outstanding student and this will set her in good stead to progress forward with the development of starting her own business next year.”
To see Claudia’s work on display, the Exhibition will be available on the Royal Academy of Arts website, from 12 July, as well as on-site at Summerset House (check RA site for details) and will also be featured in a televised event, showcased on the BBC later this year.
