Southport College secures £5000 grant for science facilities

Southport College are thrilled to announce that we have secured a £5000 grant from Open Awards to improve our science facilities.

Access to HE students in our biomedical science lab

This funding will directly benefit students on our Access to Nursing and Midwifery and Access to Health and Medical Science courses by providing them with more interactive lab equipment in our newly established Bio-Med Laboratory.

The grant will be used to acquire industry-standard equipment for microbiological investigations, biochemical analysis, and pathology diagnosis. These additions will create an even more engaging, hands-on learning environment, ensuring our students are well-prepared for university-level study and future careers in healthcare.

Our Curriculum Leader for Health and Social Care, Wesley Magee, expressed his enthusiasm, stating: “I’m delighted that Open Awards have selected us to receive this grant. The funding will allow us to enhance our resources with industry-standard equipment, further enriching our students’ learning experience and preparing them for higher education and beyond.”

Our Health and Social Access to Higher Education courses are a year long qualification which give participants the entry requirements to pursue a university degree in their chosen healthcare field. This ensures a future for our NHS as we actively build the next generation of healthcare workers. To learn more about our Access to HE courses, click here.
