Although painting and decorating does include small-scale projects like house refurbishments, it is not limited to this. Oil rigs, bridges and steelwork all require protective coatings and hotels, bars, restaurants and stately homes all demand the ultimate decorating finesse.
Demand for high-quality and qualified painting and decorating tradespeople is always going to exist and with TV and media coverage of the trade in shows such as 60 Minute Makeover and DIY SOS, the industry has seen an extra boost in jobs and projects.

Through our Student Information Centre, our Progress Tutors and Library Learning Centres students have access to a wide range of careers advice and information as well as assistance with UCAS personal statements, CVs and job applications.

Adam Murdoch, Painting and Decorating Level 2 I came to an Open Evening at Southport College and really liked it. It was better than some of the other colleges I had looked at and getting a free bus pass was a big selling point! The Painting and Decorating course has been great. The tutors are really nice and approachable and the facilities are great. They have everything you need to complete the course. The tutors also helped me to get together equipment to set up my own decorating business. I have already started my own business and hope to continue to grow this and become a successful sole trader. I have learnt everything I need to become a successful decorator. I’ve got the qualifications. Also the tutors have all worked in the industry and they are able to pass on all their skills and knowledge.
